Knock Sensor
Hello,
I have a 97 civic dx(d16y7) and i swapped a 98 ex(d16y8) onto it. The guy sent me the y8's wire harness so i used that instead of using my y7's and then running wires to the ECU for it. Then put in my 98 EX ecu.Well went to go start it up and it wouldn't crank over. Put on the DX Ecu i had and it started up. I'm trying to figure out if it could be the knock sensor preventing it from starting with the EX ecu on it. I read somewhere that it retards the timing. Can anyone enlighten me on the knock sensor and what it does and if this could be the problem?
Any info i can supply, just didn't know what was needed.
Also i have 2 other questions
On the passenger side of the car, there is a wire coming off the harness by the battery that i didn't have a connection for. Its a blue plug with 2 inserts for prongs to go into

And on the drivers side right by the firewall theres a white plug coming out that i couldn't find a connection for.

The knock sensor is on the back of the block, and retards ignition timing when it detects cylinder knock. The blue plug looks like the plug that goes to the evap purge valve that is mounted on the fuel rail. As for that other plug, I'm not sure what it goes to. It doesn't look like I have that in my car, unless it's like for cruise control or something, but it doesn't really look like my c/c plug.
that plug is for the idle air control valve that is different for the ex 5 speed....the d16y7 iac is rotary and the d16y8 is a linear...check that cause it will give you major fits for idle and codes too if you have any more problems drop me a line.....ive been through this with the wifes civic swap
the engine will run w/o any of the vtec wires connected... you say you have an auto....just stabbing in the dark i almost think you got a harness out of a 5 speed...like i said let me check and see whats up and ill get back with ya
or maybe you got a manual ex comp :dunno: if its p2p its wrong!

what should the computer be if its for an auto?
the one i have says p2p...but also its 4 plugs, the one i had gotten before was 3 which im pretty sure was for a manual...if not crud
