Default Is 2.5" exhaust piping too big?

I'm thinking about an h22 swap. But I need to know is 2.5 inch mandrel bent piping too big for a NA h22a motor (with high-flow cat & muffler)?

thanks

i dont think it's too big.... i have 2.25 on my d16 civic and didnt lose any power that was noticable.... so im sure a h22 can push it alright...

you'll be fine with 2.5. if you go 2.25 you'll have some more low end grunt. that's all.

if you are doing a build up the 2.5 will def. be used then.

hey thanks guys thats nice to know. Yeah, I would sacrifice low end for top end so thats cool. Plus (like you said bumnah) if I ever do end up building it up NA or turbo then I wouldnt have to upgrade exhaust again. I think I will go Stainless steal 2.5". mkteller8@aol.com sells mandrel bent piping and has good prices.

thanks again

no current exhaust manufacturer builds a 2.5" diameter exhaust for the H22A.

i think it has something to do with proper research and development to provide optimum power.

It has more to do with the fact that most exhaust manufacturers are looking to build bolt on systems, which are usually built the same size as the exhaust manifold collector.

2.5 is a good size.

no one makes a 2.5" collector on their header in the aftermarket except the Kamikaze system (but their short primary system is anti-productive). plus, it would require a catalytic converter changeout.

a stepped system, i.e. 2.25" collector and catalytic converter combined with a 2.5" exhaust, will cause exhaust flow turbulence.

like i said, do all the research first as the aftermarket already has.

The common aftermarket has produced bolt on parts, not horsepower. Good dyno gains have been seen moving to 2.5" exhaust systems on B series engines. I can't see how an engine with a larger displacement and high valve lifts can possibly benefit from a smaller exhaust system.

AN-R produces a header with 2" primaries and a 2.5" collector. Hytech, SMSP, and Burns Stainless are other good choices.

I wouldnt go any bigger than 2.5..If no manufactures make a 2.5inch exhaust for the H22 then go to a local muffler shop and I'm sure they can hook you up with something!
