someone was telling me that their rings allow a small amount of oil by on purpose?

is this true?
and why would they do that?

You have to have a good oil control ring in order to lubricate the cylinder walls, but that's not really the same thing as you're describing I don't think.

They lubricate the cylinder walls just like stock, but their key feature is less blow by then stock. Good rings, and price isnt too bad either.

well is it common for these rings to show some smoke when boost 1st comes on?

we are talking 18 psi with fully built motor(except sleeves)

Depends on what kind of management you're running and what color the smoke is. It's not all that uncommon for a turbo engine to spit rich smoke when boost hits, but it is pretty uncommon to burn oil unless you've burnt something internally.

Most oiling and smoke problems come with the hone job. If you just use a dingleball hone instead of taking your block out and having it honed by a good shop, you aren't going to get a great finish on the walls. If any one of the cylinders looks darker than the others, then it was burnished - meaning instead of cutting and removing material like the hone is supposed to, it pushed the material over, sort of smearing the metal. A burnished cylinder will never seal right and will always end up smoking.

As for the Total Seal rings, I can tell you they were on my customer's B16 Civic SI that qualified number one in class and won the class at a recent SCCA national event. I built his head and another shop did the block which ended up smoking. Don't know if the smoking was due to the rings or the hone job as I didn't see it.

My motor smoked BAD when I first started it up and my buddy just finished his H23 with Total Seal rings and his smoked as well. Mine no longer smokes, but I have over 1200 miles on it now. FYI

ok well 1st i have to admit this isnt a honda engine but since i am a member and do have a honda this is the 1st place i asked

ok now that its out of the way the engine was built by cobb tuning and it took forever so im guessing they did the job right(plus it cost me over 6 grand) and the engine was broken in properly
and i was told this was normal with total seal rings just wanted to double check thanks for all the feedback
