Tranny coolers... are they necessary??

hi, i was thinking about getting a tranny cooler for my accord. does anyone know if it helps the car or is it just pointless?

What sort of driving are you going to be doing with the car? Sounds a bit overkill to me unless you're building up a pretty serious setup.

I think most automatic Honda's have tranny coolers built into the radiator. They aren't overly effictive, but they do offer some cooling. I wouldn't bother with the tranny cooler unless you're running some sort of aftermarket transmission that can handle abuse.

Then number one cause of transmission failure is heat!!!!
All though honda's are very light duty cars and don't have a history of overheating problems in their tranny. A external tranny cooler would never hurt anything, it's just a matter of where are you going to put it. If anything I think an inline tranny filter on one of your cooler lines would benifiet your tranny the most since honda filters aren't serviceable unless you pull the tranny apart.
