Default 3rd Gen Accord Engine?

Ok so I am a newbie to the Honda world. I have an '89 SEi 2 door. It is an automatic. Most of the places I see don't list the SEi was it a special model or something?

I am thinking about a engine swap on it and need some input.

I am looking for a daily driver with low maintainence.

Not looking for a street racer just something with a little power but still good on the highway.

I would prefer something that I could start kinda small with and then add to later as finances allowed.

Give me an idea of some options and approx costs.

Thanks

TD

I'm sure its been done (It always has) but I've never heard of an engine swap in a 3rd gen accord. My suggestion would be to either go into a 4th gen (You can bolt a H22 in there. H22 go vroom vroom VRAAM), or build up the motor that is in there with either a junkyard turbo kit or some headwork and stuff.

If you can find a JDM B20A from a 86-89 Accord or 86-87 Prelude, it will bolt in fine and has about 160hp (the 88-91 Prelude B20A's are different, they tilt backwards, and won't bolt in). These motors are somewhat rare since they're so old now, but if you find one, it should cost around 300-600 for the motor.

I believe that as long as you use the Accord/Prelude engine mounts of that generation you should be able to fit in any number of B-series motors. Not sure though. There is a site out there somewhere that is dedicated solely to 3rd gen Accords, let me see if I can find it.
