Default Urgent help needed

I have a 93 vtec prelude. My problem started when I pulled out of the garage today. I heard a whinning rattling sound. I found that the sound was coming from the distributor cap. I pulled the cap and there where no broken parts from the cap/rotor, it did look like the rotor hit the tips on the cap. I replaced the cap /rotor and the car still made same sound.

I think it's the distributor. Is there any special way of installing the new one, do I have to worry where the rotor is facing? Or will the car know to automatically spin the rotor to the #1 cyclinder then spark it or does the #1 cyclinder have to at tdc 'also'?

Thanks
