1997 2.2 CL Transmission stuck in 2ND
(posting for a friend)
My friend's 1997 2.2 CL won't shift any higher than 2nd gear. It's an automatic.
Anyone had any experiences with this ? He's thinking of taking it to the dealer and having them diagnose then checking out some independant shops. I'm not sure when he had the fluid flushed.
I did use the search function, but nothing like this in the CL or engine forums.
Thanks
Lee

This sounds like a shift solenoid gone bad on the transmission. Unfortunately I don't know how to test them, or how much they cost. My only suggestion would be to take it to an Acura shop, and good luck.

Just to inform anyone who's interested.
Friend said the dealer quoted him $1,000 for a new tranny ECU which is 'expected' to fix the problem. If not..
They think that there may be transmission damage caused by the failed ECU. To fix this they quoted him $4,100 for a new tranny (w/ ECU).
He got another quote from an independant shop for $2,100.
