Places that sell H22A's ready for engine swaps don't usually give much info about that donor car. Some basic Google searching didn't help much, only showed me Preludes. But does anyone know if the H22A was used in any other cars besides the Prelude? I can't find any record of an Accord or Civic with one, other than after a swap.

Not like it really matters, just curious.

 

The only car with a "standard" H22 is the Prelude. The Accord Type-R which was sold in Europ and the Accord Euro-R which was sold in Japan both came with what is essentially a Prelude Type-S motor.

 

Cool, thanks for the info. Any idea why most places don't give much info about an engines history, like miles mainly? Do they just not get the info or wish not to pass it along?

They usually just give an estimate between 10,000 and 30,000... that's a large difference to me. Is there any way to verify mileage and age or even past problems?

 

Most places don't have the history of the motor because they didn't pull it out of the car. Used motors are a pretty big export business in Japan so essentially there a bunch of suppliers who pull the motors and keep stock. The dealers in the states generally buy out of that stock.

 

the best way to verify mileage is to go to japan and find the car yourself, that way you can pull the motor out and know exactly how many miles is on it...

 

in australia, new zealand and maybe japan too non vtec preludes have f22 engines...i believe that was the previous accord engine..

the US got teh H23a1 non vtec dohc and the f22a1 sohc non vtec, while i think that other areas got the f22b dohc non vtec....did australia get the dohc non vtec engine as well?

 

cant you hook it up to somethign and check out the mileage? like at a honda dealer? cuz that would be nice

 

I was wondering if you could look up some info via the VIN, that's usually on the block isn't it? I don't know if Japan keeps records like we do in the US, if they are better or worse. But if I were to run a CarFax on a US car, I could get a real good idea what's been done to it.

 

maybe i they kept track of that info in japan, like clikwir mentioned carfax for here.
but unless you got connections that most people dont, you have to rely on the word of someone else who may not have ever seen the engine in a car.
my 1st h22a had a gauge cluster with it.
my second had a little sticker on teh valve cover that was in japanese...
so i can only assume those were mileages indications showing 75,000 miles and 55,000 miles.
