Default 98 gs-r running sluggish/puttering

Sup yall. My car has been running funny the last couple months. It seems like it's runnin on 3 cylinders. I know somethings wrong cuz my exhaust all of a sudden got hella quiet too. Like almost half as loud as it used to be. When I hit the gas on the freeway yesterday, the car puttered and never did it again. I already changed the fuel filter, cap n rotor, sparkplugs, map sensor and had a recent tune up. I have a Fields v-tec controller in it and a accel ignition coil. Could it be one of those causing the problem? Ooh yah, my tachometer needle jumps all over the place when i tach it over 4.

Sounds like a possible electrical problem to me. Are you throwing any codes? What is your SFC-VTEC set at(fuel and VTEC settings)?

Im Pretty sure its your VAFC I have the Fields also.

Check your wiring to the computer make sure everything is tight because I have a loose wire and it makes my car drive very sluggish. It also throws a check engine light. It is code 3 the Map Sensor. So if you have these same problems start with tighting the wires on the vtec controller.

Default V-tec contrtoller

I'm havin the V-tech controller taken out today. It was always turned off because it didn't make that big a difference in my car. Hopefully, that's the problem. I'm not throwing any codes though. No check engine light. My check engine light did come on before and I changed the Map Sensor and it went away. Maybe I didn't even hafta change that.

Default Vtec Controller

I changed mine also thinkin it was the problem it wasnt.

The Vtec controller makes a big difference for me and it isnt even tuned.

I would just have it reinstalled and make sure everything is tighten. Turning it off doesnt work I used to try that also. But hopefully you fix the problem.

The Accel ignition coil is probably your problem. A useless aftermarket part for the NA honda world, but then again who am I and what do i know.

VTEC - a variable valve timing and lift mechanism employed on Honda motors.
V-Tec - absolutely nothing.
V-Tech - a manufacturer of cordless phones and educational toys for children.

My friend's gf has a 99 gsr and it sputtered in low rpms and sometimes didn't start. Had it at the dealership about 3 times before they found that the tranny ground wire was broken.
