Default b16 vs b18 block

When a b series block is larger, is the only difference that it is basically taller? also, when boring out an engine, are you making it wider? Can you clear up any other basics along these lines.

A B16As have a 263mm deck height, while the rest of the B series engines(including the B16B) have a 270mm deck height. The B16B is basically a destroked B18. When you bore a block, you widen the diameter of the cylinder walls. The external physical dimensions of the block stay the same.
