I've had the Check Engine Light come on a few times since I bought the car. After turning off the car though it goes out. When I check the ECU it still has the codes stored in it. The CEL is not on though. I've even pulled the 7.5 backup fuse under the hood to clear the ECU like good ol Haynes says to but the codes are still there.

If the problem is still there why doesnt the CEL come back on?

 

it depends on the codes. sometimes its an intermittent problem, or its a code such as egr that will come and go often depending on a certain # of drive cycles.

 

Sorry to interupt, but how the hell do you check the ecu for codes? Do you need any special tools?
