tranny issues
i just got a b18a1 w/ a gsr head on it but the thing came w/ a automatic tranny i want to keep my 5 speed . so heres where my dilema sets in i heard the gsr tranny has a long throw on it so i was wondering if a b16a3 or another sir type will have a shorter throw. also this is going in to a 93 del sol , by the way the engine is turbo if that helps. but if you have any ideas please help . peace chris
What do you mean by longer throw? Do you mean gearing? If so, B16 gearing is shorter than GSR gearing. If you already have a GSR tranny, I would try that out before looking for a B16 tranny, especially with boost. See how you like the GSR tranny with boost, and keep in mind that shorter gearing will mean more shifting, and less time in boost. If you still want shorter gearing, also keep in mind that JDM trannies with 4.40 and 4.785 FD's can be had, and those have substantially shorter gearing.
Used hydro LS, B16, and GSR trannies usually go for around $500-750, depending on year and condition. JDM 4.40FD trannies go for about $1200, but they come with LSD. JDM 4.785 trannies cost more than the 4.40 ones, and also come with LSD.

^he usually has some JDM trannies on hand, although his stock has been moving pretty quickly as of late.
