Default Water Pump question......help?

Last night my car overheated and there was no water in the waterpump. I refilled it with water and pored some water in the radiator. The engine was off and cooling down for about 45 minutes then I drove home for 50 miles. It didn't overheat at all, in fact it kept it's normal temperature. .....But these morning when I turned it on and drove it for 5 miles the temp stayed the normal stage but the water pump was empty. It drank all the water. My question is why did my car use up all the water in the pump? Whats the problem, can anyone help?
Thank You.

What waterpump are you talking about?

You probably just boiled off a little of your coolant.

Check your dipstick, if it looks like a milkshake instead of oil, then you are in trouble.

I just learned that it was my overflow tank(resovoir) that was empty. Not the water pump.

Ahh... Well here's what I would do... look on the ground under the car tomorrow morning... and if there's green shizz everywhere, start thinkin. ;-)

Other than that, use COOLANT... And happy filling ;-)
