Yea... But how hard is it to unbolt the manifold and bolt on the stock one? VS yankin out a b16 and dropin in a d16.... Im sure they would pass a b16 if you had a BAR certificate, but if you put 1 mod on that thing I garantie you it wont pass! A D16A6 will pass smog with Hi pistons, 3" exaust, headers and a intake on the dyno! I know... My neaghbor has all that and he passed!

I dig
I guess speed costs money, and smogging costs loads...
We don't have smog here :fawk:, but I don't have a car...so it doesn't matter.

California was the center of hotrodding activity long before CARB came along...a lil bit of government restriction isn't going to shut down an entire industry.

Pretty much every state aside from NY and CA has very lenient emissions laws. As long as you've got a cat bolted up you can pass. I know in Maryland they put you on a dyno but the actual numbers they have set as standards are pretty easy to pass.

I just go to school here in Wisconsin so I don't know what the deal with smogging a car here is but I would assume that it's similarly not much of an issue.

If you want to pass smog in Cali the best option is to get a USDM motor of the same model year or newer than your car.

My mechanics teacher showed me a nifty trick (this information is for educational porposes only, and should not be attempted on your own accord) He had a beastly old volvo station wagon, it was like a 82 or somethin. The thing wouldnt pass smog even after he droped a new motor in it. He has a triple platinum shop so he knows how to make cars pass smog. Finaly he went to a pick and pull and got a old rustd mufler and cat that had holes in it. He took it to another shop and had them smog it (for reputanional porposes) and it passed!!! See the holes in the mufler and cat prevented the exaust from all comming out! So here is what ya do, heat rises, so you drill a large hole in the top of your cat and weld on a tube, the connect a hose to that and run it somewere inconspicouse (like your wheelwell) this prevents a lot of smog from escaping out of the tailpipe! HAPPY SMOGING! (NOTE: if the smog dude can see this it wont pass visual, so make sure its well hidden. The other way to do it is to get a rusted out exaust thats full of holes)

Speaking from experience, you do not want to change out an ITB system every time you smog.
