Default smoking in higher rpms

My 96 gsr with 85,000 miles is smoking in the higher rpms . Granted it has been colder out latlybut i do not feel it is running rich. Or is it? I am hoping that it is not getting blow by from the valve seals. This just started to happen at least a week ago or more.
My friend pointed the smoke out to me 2 days ago. I had not noticed. So tonight i had a friend follow me home and i steped into it to see if it was still doing this and he said it was bad and it smelled. Both running rich and burning oil smell so i am stuck i hope i do not have to rip this engine down and do the valve seals .

Try doing a compression test. If you get one or more cylinders with a lower reading than the others, squirt some 10w30 oil in thru the sparkplug hole and retest. If compression goes up, the rings are bad and the oil is temporarily sealing them. If compression stays the same, you have a bad valve or seal.

When was the last time you changed your oil? I'd make sure I had that done before I did that other stuff first.

i am very militant about oil changes because i was a saab technician and every one would never change thier oil for like 10 thousand miles and would come in and the oil was so burnt and chunky it looked like hell. I have taken oil pans down and they were so clogged with metal and burnt up oil chunks the engine had siezed up

well did a compression test and all pistons are at 150 pounds or more"by like 2 punds or so". So i was talking to my old co-worker a saab technician and he said if it was oil it would be grey not black and that is what i figured . Running rich will make black smoke so i wonder since it has been cold out here and i have a cold air intake if the car is going to feed more fuel with the colder denser air also the abundance of air. I was talking to a friend who has a nsx and he said his does that when he hits vtec also. Also another car did it just the other day a si from around town took off and hit vtec and puffed a little now this is a 2000 or 2001 with very low miles so i am just wondering if it is just running rich??????

You should be higher than 150, are you doing the compression test right? You could just be running rich, throw in a new set of NGK coppers and then check them soon.

Are you holding the throttle open while you're cranking the engine? 150 sounds kinda low for a B18C. My D16Y8 gets 210-220 across the board. I think B18C's are supposed to be around 200.
