Default idle probs

Ok here is my prob. Whenever I turn on the car weather its been warmed up or it is cold. The car is constantly jumping, the idle is jumping up and down and so is the car. It is like it is chocking and it cant breath. I dont know what the prob can be. The funny thing is that some times it does it before the car has time to warm up and then it goes away. Then it could do it the other way sometimes to. It will do it after the car has already warmed up. Can anyone analize this problem cause it is now becoming a problem for me and frankly anoying, I dont know if this is hurting my cars engine. Please help

There is a little valve on your intake manifold / throttle body. The fast idle / high idle control. It sounds like that thing is fockerd.

I'd definitelly check for vacuum leaks. To do that get a bottle of brake clean and shoot it at various vacuum lines when the engine is running. If you can hear the engine rev up....you have a leak. As for this valve...I'm not sure about accords, but on civic and integra's it is right on the bottom of the throttle body. I'd look there first, as that is probably where it is.

I've had a problem like that before with my old car, to fix it we had to change the piston rings and the valve seals on it. About $400 total for it. If I was you I'd just take it to a pro and let them check it out.

If your Accord doesn't have a fast-idle valve, it could be a bad IACV, which is on the back of the intake manifold. If you disconnect your IACV and the idle holds steady, chances are the IACV is toast. Before you check the IACV, make sure there's no air in your coolant, since that can also throw the IACV off.
