Long race, what engine mods so won't blow up?
I just bought a 92 Civic HB with a 95 GSR Vtec engine. The engine is stock with 85,000 miles. I have a few Road Races coming up and the engine will be running mostly at high RPMs. What can I do to make it hold up just find with out blowing up or killing a cilinder?
Thanks
Jay

Given your signature, I'm going to assume you know all the race crap and just want the Honda specifics.
Hondas love high RPMs, and you don't really have to worry about any damage other than floating a valve, and that's only if you overrev the motor.
Baffled oil pan and a Fluidyne radiator would be my only advice.
Other than a fresh dose of all fluids, new plugs & wires, all the stuff the previous owner may or may not have tended to. The usual.

Mugen also makes a baffled pan for the GSR.

IŽll check for the baffled oil pan.
This is what I got so far to do:
Fluidyne Radiator
Baffled oil pan
Oil cooler
New hoses
New Fuilds with Red line Everywhere
Any more ideas? Should I get the GSR or the Civic Radiator.
Thanks guys.

If you want your engine to run cool, completely remove your thermastat, when you do this, your engine will run the coolant all the time instead of just doing it when it starts overheating. My friend did it to his Camaro and instead of running at about 220 degrees, it runs at about 175 degrees. I don't know if it'll work on Hondas, so you might want to check with someone else that knows a bit more than me.
My cousin's DA Integra has been running w/o a thermostat since before the summer. It takes a while to warm up, but it runs a lot cooler. I bet it's gonna be a ***** waiting for it to warm up in the winter though.
