Default got a really quick question

hey guys im new to the forum but i have a question how do i identify the year of my motor i have a 1990 civic with an ls in it but i dont know the year of the motor one kid tells me its from his car and its a 91 and another tells me its a 98 i need to know so i can buy the right parts and repair manuals for the motor so i can change the piston rings if you guys could help me out with some distinguishing marks on the motor i'd appreciate it greatly thanks again
