Rebuild or swap?
Hey all, this is my second post ever so thanks for reading and any response is great.
Car stats -
99 civic si
stock internals b16 w/140k miles
2000 si ecu
cold air w/bypass
cat back greddy
fuel pressure reg.
LSD tranny
Skunk2 suspesion w/rear arms
spc camber kit
konig theory rims
PROBLEM- On the way home from work the CEL starts to blink, I have code scanner and all that so I know its a random misfire (p0300), then it throws a #2 misfire (p0302), and a fuel trim malfunction (p0172), and a rich bank1 (p1399), needless to say it ran like a lawnmower with bad gas after that.
I also realized my piston rings are in terrible shape when I parked it and changed the plugs, wires, etc. nothing changes, even when I clear the codes.
I took it to a friends shop today and he went through everything, 02 sensor, distributor, wires, all that. even tried a new ecu.
Lastly we did a compression check and I have ZERO compression in the #2 cylinder. He says its either a burned or bent valve, or the ring totally shot and has gone to a better place. lol
The point is that I want to know whether its best to pull the head, do any machine work neccesary, while its off, do the rings, bearings, water pump, timing belt and all the seals.
OR should I just grab a JDM swap?
I'm getting a price break on the work but in the long run, whats better? I plan on boosting it soon anyways, but it needs to RUN first.
Anyone been through this? Thanks for your help,
Jon-Jon

There is really no reason to buy a JDM swap in this case. You never know the true condition of those engines until you get them.
If you plan on boosting eventually, this is a perfect chance to get some forged pistons & rods. If you keep compression above 9:1, you won't notice much of a power loss without boost.
Have it bored & honed, get your choice of pistons & rods, and have everything else replaced to OEM spec.

Thanks so much! thats what I thought would be best. Just kind of ignorant when it comes to engines. its the last thing I've had to learn, should have been the first though. Take care!
