Default what engines fit a 92 civic

i have a 92 civic, db16z6/auto and i'm fairly new to the area (arkansas) so i don't know all the good machine shops, also i'm mostly familiar w/chevy's (this is my 1st honda and i really like it). i have 195,000 miles on my car and it still runs great, strong vacuum, no misses, no smoke, a few leaks. When i rev the eng. to about 2500 rpm in neutral i get a mild erratic knock and at just above idle, say 1000 rpm i get an occassional faint metallic screech that lasts about half a second, but i can't hear anythin on the hwy. both sound like they're deep within the engine, but i can't really tell where from, i don't really want to wait for catastrophic failure, i was thinking of getting another engine and rebuilding it at my leisure. i need an engine that will bolt in w/ little or no mods, I really don't want to do a lot of work also it need to bolt up to the existing tranny. i'm certainly not above rebuilding another db16z6 but it would be nice to know my alternatives, also some idea on the cost of a block

If you only want the car to run as a grocery getter and have no performance aspirations whatsoever, the easiest solution to simply swap in another D16Z6.

If you have plans to build your Civic out, the following motors will fit.
B16A1
B16A2
B18B1
B18C1
H22A2
K20A

Bear in mind, though... that none of them will work with your D-series automatic and most would require an auto-to-manual trans conversion.

what the hell is an auto to manual trans converter exactly?! and how much work /which would be the best engine, whatever motor i get i'll probably rebuild it, get stronger rods, pistons, better cam and a few other goodies i'm considering going w/a turbo and possibly a few other pieces including a manual trans but i don't want a motor that will require major work to install by this i mean i don't want to have to spend more money getting the motor in the car than i'll spend on the engine, i definitely have performance aspirations but i don't want a trailer queen, something that would make it 3+ seconds faster would be nice, which one has the best aftermarket following?

are all of those engines better than the d16? Is it the worst choice of all? i'm also beginning to like the idea of a sleeper... A 4 door honda w/ hubcaps and lousy paint smoked your, um, well, whatever... SURPRISE BEEOTCHES!!!

1) There is no such converter. You remove the automatic transmission and all of its related parts and replace them with the necessary parts to use a manual transmisssion.

2) For your chassis the easiest motors to swap would be the B-series motors.

If your car was a manual transmission car already, the most cost-effective option would be to swap a B16A2 and then turbocharge that motor. But since you're dealing with an automatic, that transmission has to go before any swap can begin. Dealing with that auto trans will add to the expense of any swap.

3) All of the motors I listed have extensive aftermarket support. The B16A2 is the most reasonably priced, whereas the K-series motors still fetch top dollar.

have you decided on an engine, bought one yet? just wondering i picked up a 1994 gsr b18c1 5 speed and p72 ecu, gauge cluster and all the strut bars for 600$ from a yard car, total cost to putting in my engine incluing price of engine and parts hoses starter altenator axels, was 3000

price of the engine and all stuff fromt eh yard car was 535$

i really enjoyed doing this engine swap. it was fun bolt right up and gave me mor epower, the b18c1 or gsr swap is the one of the more popular swaps. you can find swaps on eby for anywhere from 2700 - 3500 depending on what the swap includes sometimes they include the axels halfshafts starter headers but most of the time not..

i was lucky to stumble accross my find for as cheap as i did the only thing now is i need to find an install guide for my guage cluster.

i have a 92 also is yours a hatch si?

but hopefully it is helpful if not im sorry
