Wats up all! I have a 90 ls with a b16a swap.My problem is when I hit vtec, I get a real thick black cloud of smoke. As my rpms go up in vtec the smoking decreases, but never clears. It also smokes heavely if I desell and then step on it. Im going through about a quart of oil a week. She dont smoke when warming up or before vtec hits. Any thoughts?

 

check the pcv valve...i had the same problem when i swpped my gsr in..could be it

 

black smoke means you're running rich

 

Stupid question, how do I lean it out?

 

first figure out why it's running rich. throwing any cel's? have you dont any maintenance?

 

The motor was just rebuilt, so its straight. I am getting 2 cells, o2 sensor #2, and the knock sensor. I only have 1 o2 sensor, that I can find . The knock sensor is just bad I think. The cells dont always come, and the car still smokes when their not reading

As you can see I have only 1 sensor
Do you think this could be my problem?

 

The second sensor would come after the catalytic converter.


Did you buy this car modified from someone else?

 

Yes, I bought it with the b16a and a turbo in it. The bottom end was junk from over boost, so I bought a 00 si b16a2 bottom and put that in with the jdm head. I also replaced the ecu with a new pr3 cause I wasnt sure what mods were done on the other ecu for the turbo. Cleaned the pvc and that helped but didnt cure.

 

Also I dont have the other o2 behind the cat either
