Default Cams B16A vs GSR B18 not Type R

Which is better(Cams B16A vs GSR B18 not Type R)?

My buddy just bought an extra GSR motor w/ Type R Cams which he plans on putting in his old motor. His old motor has stock GSR cams which he's willing to just give/trade me because he's not going to use them. He says it would give me 4hp and I wouldn't need double valve springs. Is this true and would there be any negative changes to my power band now?

If I was going to Type R. What would total swap cost (Double V. Springs, Cams)? Hp on that would be 7-9bhp correct?

Depends on labor costs, where you purchase the cams and valvesprings, and who did the tuning. You can pick up a used set of ITR cams for $300 and ITR valvesprings for $100.

The hp gain would be dependent on the tuning used. With a set of adjustable cam gears and a basic piggyback unit to adjust the vtec engagement point and even out the fuel curve, you would definitely notice a decent gain.

4 hp is not going to be noticeable on the butt dyno.

GSR cams are very slightly hotter than b16 cams. If I remember right they have 3 degrees longer duration or somesuch. If you're really bored you can install them, but I'd be surprised if you got more than 2 hp out of it.

If you're going to spend money to upgrade your cams, I'd skip ITR and go to Skunk2 stage 1 cams. They've always shown really nice gains on b16s and you can use your stock springs so long as you don't rev over stock redline.
