Default cams discussion

i'll start it off with some questions.

the car is a 97 GSR with basic bolt ons, IHE.

this car is for street use and is a daily driver. so a decent idle is a must. car is not for the weekend 1/4 mile track, or autoX, just some more power on the street. but the occassional high revving will be done.

what cams do you recommend?

i know cams will allow for a higher redline, what else is needed so that one can redline higher? will anything to the fuel or computer system need to be done.

thanks.

Type R cams. More aggressive than GSR ones, but still very streetable with stock valvetrain.

ITR/CTR ex and CTR in, or Skunk I's would probably be what you're looking for. You need upgraded valvetrain if you want to rev higher than stock, at least some ITR springs.

Crower 402a's, great vtec cam. In my experience with my roomate's GSR they pull better than the CTR and Skunk stage 1's. Skunk and crower both make good spring and retainer setups.

I'm a novice giving some opinion which cam you look for should be base on how much have you done to your engine internals and at what RPM band you want the power to be :dunno:

stock internals...and nice midrange would be nice, since it sees the streets most of the time.

From my research, I'd say Skunk Stage 1's....

That's what I want to get for my Si....

Skunk2 stage 1s are good on b16s, but provide kinda crappy gains on b18cs.

I did all my talking on this subject in the Integra forum, and I still say a Jun2 intake cam and ITR exhaust cam.

Skunk2 stage 2 cams...
http://www.importreview.com/reviews/SKUNK2VSTypeR.jpg
the results speak for themself...if your willing to spend the $$ to get them, the springs and titanium retainers from Skunk2...your looking at $1100 - 1200 for it all, the other alternative is...get CTR cams, adj cam gears, a Vafc, and the valve springs and retainers for about the same price...depending on where you look for them at...you will get about the same hp..if not more...and have a lot more to screw with..lol

no matter what cams you get, you wanna get adj cam gears so you can tune them, but there are other things other than cams you can do before you get them. and make more hp than what was tested in the dyno chars above
