Wastegate dumptube question?
I've been wondering about this, is the dumptube just supposed to release exhaust into the air after the wastegate opens? Or is it supposed to tie into the exhaust? Isn't it super ass loud for the wastegate to be open and just have the dumptube exit under the car?
It wouldn't make sense to tie it back into the exhaust, it would defeat the purpose, but I'm just wondering.

On stock Turbo cars, like DSM Galant VR4's, the wastegate opening goes back into the exhaust.
And yes it is super loud, like a hissing sound... But it makes turbo lag almost non-existent and will surely add power.
Thanks for the quick reply! If it's too loud, is there any way to quiet it down? Maybe an extension or something? I'm just going to leave it as is until the kit goes in my car and is running. Should be soon!
re-route the tube back into the downpipe and it'll be much quieter. with an open dump it's basically a big exhaust leak. if you want to run an open dump make sure it ends below the oil pan otherwise the gasses being dumped will be sucked right back up by the turbo.
My mock up fit last week of the header/turbo/downpipe showed that it ends right at the oil pan level with a gnar 60* or so bevel cut at the end....I'm thinking I may want it re-routed in the dp when I have that made. Only suck part is I have to do the install, then dolly it down to the shop and have them make it....
