transmission /Lsd
Who here knows how to take the caseing off the transmission for a gsr? I 'm putting in my lsd and can't get the casing off, it seems to be stuck. I already took all the bolts around out and i have it about an inch apart. HElp!!!
The case itself apart right?
The diff bearings are a press fit into the case and shimmed to control float, if it's apart an inch or so, try putting it back together some and apply even pressure around the case, that should let you get the transmission case halves apart. That is assuming you took the 5th gear stuff apart from the end of the tranny though...
Are you using any kind of manual as a guide?

Ok, first things first, start from the outboard and work in.
Outboard is farthest away from the input shaft where the tranny mates with the engine. Any covers on the outboard end need to be removed so that you can make sure nothing is keeping you bound up as you try to seperate the case. I can't remember 100% if there's a fifth gear cover on a B-series tranny or not, I know there is on a D-series. If there is, you need to remove that cover, and take the fifth gear selector fork, and gears off of the main and counter shaft before the case halves will seperate.

Yikes, I could go into the whole procedure, but you're much better off buying the Helms Manual. Getting the shafts lined up, and the cover back on just takes some fumbling.

Ok, so I thought better of it. If you changed out your differential, you absolutely should get the roller ball bearings instead of the tapered roller bearings that probably come with it. Make sure that your reverse idler gear is installed right side up. If its not, you won't be able to shift the gears, although the housing will go on. Make sure you have all of the shafts lined up right and in their housing. Ensure that you have your shift forks lined up with the shifting assembly. You might have to take a piece of safety wire and hook it around the little shifter shaft to keep it upright. The housing will go right on, with some easy taps with a rubber mallet. Don't tap too hard though, and stop once you feel resistance.
