vtec will not engage unless certain conditions are met. engine up to operating temps, enough oil pressure, over a certain speed, over a certain throttle position, etc.

if your friend is driving hard enough to try and engage vtec when the engine is still cold tell him he's an idiot.

quick question is the only diff between vtec an i-vtec is that the oil can be changed ( in the i vtec) every 10,000-15,000 miles... my boss drives a accord and told me the dealer told him with good oil an with i vtec he could go 15000 miles befor an oil change.

ivtec has the variable valve timing and electronic lift control of a normal vtec, but also has vtc, which allows continously variable cam timing.

only 1100 rpms thats tight.vtec all the way why would you want to miss out on a higher lift and duration cam at higher rpms and a nice idle with good low rpm power.best of both worlds.and ya so what it doesn't work cold you don't want to push your engine when its cold.
