can i chip a 97 ex civic? or do i need a new computer?

im Pretty Sure You Can Chip A 97' Ex Ecu. I Dont See Why Not !! Or You Can Swap Your Ecu For A Gsr Or Sir Ecu

Chip it for what? Like a cheap-o mod chip seen on ebay or something like crome or hondata?

It is OBD2...you cannot chip it. If you have ever looked inside of an OBD2 ECU, you will see why.

so i can just replace my ecu with a gsr, ls ecu and notice a difference?
is it just a plug and play or do i need to do something else after i get a different ecu.. and is it safe? no damage to the car?

you probly have a p28 in your car now, if your car is a a 97 then it is obd2a. Obd2 computers can not be chipped, as far as you asking if you can put i ls or a gsr computer in there known as p72 the answer is no, they will not contain the correct fuel and timming maps that your motor needs

You will notice a difference, but it will probably run worse. Keep your ECU stock until you have a good reason to have it tuned. This isn't Gran Turismo where you pay 100 credits and get 12 hp from an ECU chip.

For a stock motor, there is no other ECU that will make it run better than the one you already have.
