I took my alternator belt and held on for deal life while someone hit a breaker with a 3 pound hammer. And that was on a 98 engine.

I HIGHLY advise picking up a crank pulley tool and doing it the right way.

BTW, I hope you have a torque wrench for putting on the water pump... its only like 7 pound feet.

I made a flywheel locker out of a rolled steel L bracket to hold my flywheel in place, and I was literally bouncing on the end of a 5 foot cheater bar and my crank pulley didn't budge. You can use a chain clamp/wrench to hold the pulley while you try to loosen it, or you can get a crank pulley tool. The Honda one is like $55 for the toola nd $55 for the handle, but oyu can get a Moroso one for like $70, and another company makes Honda crank tools for like $38 that you can use with any 1/2" drive breaker bar.

we use a 8foot piece of pipe and a screwdriver in the flywheel... stick the screwdriver in teh flywheel and put the lug nut wrench that came with the car on the crank pully bolt and then hang on the end of hte 8 foot pipe. if that dont work we hook a come-along to the pipe and to the bench in the shop. damn a crank pully
