Default Wannabe hybrid, need advice please....

Okay, '90 Teg LS, B18A, 138,000 miles.
Engine growls at me everytime I start it cold until it builds oil pressure. Engine swap is inevitable in near future. Don't wanna be stock. What's the best swap without major mods? VTEC? Turbo?
New to Honda-Acura so I don't know much about the engine codes, HP ratings and interchangeability yet.
Any recommendations and knowledge greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

I had a 93 teg gs and I swaped in a jdm b16, with ctr pistons and ctr cams, all totally rebuilt blah blah blah, all the good stuff and I was more than happy. Then she got took from me and I'm working on a new project. Good Luck.

If you wanted to go turbo, you could go turbocharged, built b18c1 (stock GSR 180hp)... That combo done well could put you up to 500bhp, as I recently read in a Hot Compact and Import magazine.. That's some big $$$ though.

You could cram a H22a1 (92-96 prelude vtec) in there.. You'd have torque to spare..

I'm not a fan of the b16, even though it's horsepower numbers are respectable.

Even a b18b1 from a base 94+ integra would give you more power, and there are *so many* upgrades for that engine.. cams, rods, valvetrain... the engine is only non-vtec 140hp to begin with but I'm sure with a few thousand you could get 160-170hp all motor with some bolt ons and some head work...

check out www.hasport.com for some engine mount kits...

places like jdmhondaparts.com have engine prices (and engines)...

Good luck!
