help please
about 5000 miles ago I had the motor(b18c1) torn down and redone, (typeR piston, stage two cams, skunk valve terain, ajsut. cam gears, ect....) my question is, I keep burning oil ( about 2 q's ) every other week. This seems like alot and I dont see any smoke coming from the exhaust.I have heard it could be valve seals, or maybe piston rings, but all of this is new.Is there a way I could cheack if its these or do I need to take it somwhere? Any ideas on what it could be.Is the seals or rings my problem? I'm lost and need help any imput would be helpfull. thanks
It could be alot of things, who did your motor work? Someone reputable or some "dude".
Could be valveseals, but this is the least likely option.
Do a compression test and a leak down test if the compression test is bad. This will tell you if it is the piston rings.
FYI I had an oil consuming/burning problem after I installed a turbo, and I couldn't figure out where it was going. I even did a compression test and a leakdown test, and the comp test pretty much gave good results, so I was stumped...Thought it was head gasket, ripped of the head only to find out it was perfectly fine, no rupture. So I put it all back together and started it up, and it seemed ok while it was idling... I drove around the block and the problem was back. It had to be the rings I thought... So I ripped the entire motor apart, took out the pistons and almost overlooked the fact that ALL of the pistons had cracked ring lands. That was the problem, I replaced the pistons with lower compression ones from LS and got new rings and a headgasket, and the car runs PERFECT, no smoke or oil consumption AT ALL even with 10+psi.
Here's a clue, pull your PCV valve and see if there is smoke coming from the hose, if so then it's likely you have the same problem as me.
Smoke out of PCV = Excess Blow-by = oil cunsumption
P.S. I had counltess people and mechanics tell me my prob was valveseals, even though I disagreed, and it turns out they are perfect. It is a favorite reason as to why the car burns smoke, but it is most common in engines where the redline is lower, AKA american cars. Besides the DOHC VTEC engines have such small tolerances, that I doubt the valveseals will ever leak because they are designed and built so well.
Hope this helps

I'm at work so I haven't cheacked the pcv valve yet, will do tonight. If it happens to be the ring lands, how hard would it be to replace? how much sould I expect to pay if I pay someone? Thank you for your help.
No drips on the block? When the head was done, did they redo the stuff on the top end too (valve cover, cam shaft seal, etc...) The most common spot for Integras to leak is the camshaft seal - something very easy to replace, and potentially frequently overlooked. It is on the left of the valve cover, right next to the distributor.
so I had a leak down test done yesterday along with the compression test. results: 20 % leakage past rings in #2 cylender, also if that was not bad enough leakage past valve guids in #1, 2, 3 cylenders. any idea on what may have caused this I mean everything was changed when rebuild took place? could this be my falt, or dose it go back to the machine shop and mac?
yes, for the first 800 miles I reved no higher than 4000. My vtech would not even kick in due to the larger cams and stock computer issues, At about 1500 miles I got a ericks racing chip put in. also at the 800 mark I had my oil changed for the mobil one full syn 5-30. untill about 1700 miles did the car even begin to be driven hard. I mean this is my first motor build and it seems since I started this project about 6 months ago, eveery nightmare that could happen has happen, execpt bending valves or course. Did I brake the car in proper, is there somthing I did wrong? Could it just be a bad build like you said? so do any of you have or know someone in cali that can fix this problem so I can sleep again? with a decent price. thanks
