1991 Integra... won't crank
Okay, first post for a newbie...
I have a 1991 integra, (stick shift) won't turn over from the key.
-Worked for years without a problem... (until now!) -Here'a how far I've traced it:
I know that the starter and solenoid are both fine, because if I pull the solenoid "trigger" connection and jump it straight to the battery positive, (in Neutral, of course!!!) it turns over and the car will start.
I have positive power at the black wire with a white stripe when I turn the key, so I know that the ignition lock/switch is okay.
I'm not sure how the clutch pedal starter inhibit works... I thought it might just be in series with the starter 'hot' wire, but it seems there's a couple of different-colored wires going there... jumping the connector with a paper clip doesn't help...
Can anyone help?
-Is there a starter relay somewhere that I should check?
This was so much easier on the really old cars!!!
Many thanks in advance,
Keith

HaHa!!.. Let's see.. My car won't start. CHECK THE ALTERNATOR.. Talk about Bubba. You're barking up the wrong tree dude..
Anyways.. You're saying that your car won't crank over but you tested the starter, starter solenoid, and ignition switch. And now you're curious about checking the "Starter-Clutch Interlock Switch". Well, I don't know what it looks like. But I do know how to test it "indirectly". According to the wiring diagram, the only thing that the switch does is ground the starter relay. So in essence, all you have to do is find the switch, cut the wire and ground it. Or if you want to check the switch with an VOM, just see if there's continuity through it. But I don't know how you'd do that since you've gotta step on the pedal and then check it.
But here's another tree to bark up. Did you check your battery? If it doesn't have at 9.6volts in it, not including the surface charge, then the car won't start. To get rid of surface charge, leave your headlights on with the car off for one minute. And leave them off for another minute afterwards. If you're battery is ok, I'd check to see if you have a spark. If you don't, check your ignition coil. See if there's continuity through it and make sure it's not case grounded or something..
