Default i need V-TEC swap advice!!!!!!

i bought a 89 Civic with a SOHC V-TEC head (?D16Z6?) for only $750!! i took it for a drive and the V-TEC did not engage! i looked and the V-TEC solenoid was not hooked up!! it is a Si wiring harness so there is no place to hook it up at!! is it possible to hook the V-TEC solenoid to a rpm activated switch or something like that??? please let me know!! thanks a bunch!!!!!!!!!!!!!
