I want to run about 14 psi on my d16y8 w/ a t3/t4 t04e turbo. And I was just wondering what kind of whp my stock engine sleeves could handle. Im hoping 250-300whp, I may go for more however, if my sleeves will hold up. The engine will be fully rebuilt. SRP pistons, Eagle rods, ARP head studs, and everything balanced.

 

Tuning will be the key, but they hold up with good tuning to about 400whp....

 

the hp is really the big issue with sleeves or your internals for that matter. the issue that comes into play with stock internals and the stock sleeves is the boost level. typically on good tuning a stock lowerend with stock sleeves call safely run 8-10 psi but some guys on here i have seen running what you ask. my recomendation...
if you are going to spend the time building the motor with rods pistons and having it balanced ur halfway there to having a block that can handle high boost...spend the extra 1000 bucks and have the block sleeved. especially if you want to go higher than 10. just not worth the risk if u ask me.

 

Unless he's planning to make a lot of hp, his stock sleeves will be fine.
Sure it's only $1,000 for peace of mind but that $1000 could be put to better use invested in his tuning...
He's only looking for 250 - 300Whp and the stock sleeves will be more then fine.
It would take really shotty tuning or lack of reguard to crack a sleeve at that power level (250whp - 300whp)....
Then again this is only my oppinion....based upon what I've seen over the past several years of boosting honda's..
It's up to you to take this info and compare it to your other findings from doing research and come up with your own decision on what you plan to do....

Oh and boost pressure has very little to do with determining if he needs sleeves or not.
