Default 96' civic LX need new engine

185k miles on it, took it to a few shops saying the need to take the bottom of the engine out to fix it and would cost anywhere between 1000-1800 dollars (checked few places). So my question is any1 know where I can buy a cheap replacement engine within 15 miles of 92056 zip code. Hope to spend under 1000 bucks. So my best option is just to install a new engine with the help from my cousin and sum friends. Thanks in advance

D series engine are a dime a dozen and even for the pick of the litter you won't spend more than 600-800.

Literally any import junkyard will have these engines. Get out a phonebook and start calling.

Keep in mind you're going to spend at least $200 beyond the purchase price of the engine to install it.
