Default RSX Won't go past 5500 RPM in drive

I've searched and seen one other person had this problem... it's a 02 RSX Type S and when trying to get on it... like at a light or something... It won't go past 5500... every now and then it has... but usually it pegs out like it's hitting the limiter. I understand this would be usual if in park but when trying to race????? Anyone know what could be causing this... thanks.

Hi. Yes. I'll tell you in a minute but first, Welcome to HAN.

You would have to have it in a lower gear than Drive in order to get it to rev higher, which I do not advise you to do by the way because it will probably do damage.
It's because of the way the tranny is designed to work. And I think the reason you have varying results is because of the terrain that you're driving on. I read somewhere that Acura put a special grade sensing thing in those auto transmissions.

In any gear, with 0 speed, the revlimiter kicks in at 5500, this is your maximum 'launch' speed. Deal with it.

You didn't include that it also does it when you are moving. You just said "when trying to get on it from a light" which implies you were starting from a stop or maybe slight roll.

Also, you said "when in drive" like you were talking about an automatic. And then later you said it was a 6 speed, which it should be if it's a type-s. (i didn't think they made any auto type s's).

I'm just curious, though, what does it exactly do when it "pegs out"?
