help needed to build a motor
ok...i think the wise decision is going to be to rebuild the motor. make it new again. it burns some oil under hard acceleration now and prolly could use some bearings and rings. whats a good source of parts?? is it better to buy an aftermarket head or just get a good port and valve job? how about cams...who offers the best performance cams? is there any kind of rotating assembly kit that would have all rods, pistons, crank, etc...?? any suggestions/tips/advice?
Aftermarket heads simply don't exist, and the stock head's ports are good enough that you need to spend some serious dough at a good shop to make them better ($750+).
For your earlier question, running 300hp NA is bleeding edge track car power. I mean, it's a 1.8 liter engine, takes a lot to pull that kind of power out w/o forced induction. If you want big numbers, a turbo is for you. If you say it's quick and just want a little faster, for around $3000 you could grab cams & valvetrain, keep those high comp pistons with some new rings and rods, new intake, manifold, header, and exhaust. That would put you somewhere 225-250hp depending on your choice of cams and put the car deep into the 13s at the track. The nice thing about the VTEC engines is they really have 2 seperate cam profiles and so you can go pretty hot on the cams without ruining your idle.
Stock crank is just fine, have it balanced but that's all. Rods go either Eagle or some Crower Econobillets if you're NA, Crower I-beams if you're going turbo. If those are really type R pistons you could stick with those, otherwise it's the usual mfgrs like J&E, Wiseco, Arias, etc.
Cams... everyone has a favorite. I would go with Skunk2 stage 2s on a b18c1 with good supporting mods. They have their new Pro cams out but I know absolutely jack about them. I'm sure some other folks will come in and plug their favorite cams, there's lots of people making them these days.

I have to disagree with the above statement. Dart has started making gsr heads but they are unbelievable priced. Now granted i dont know all the details but i dont know if its worth the price i saw... 3k for just a bare head.. http://www.dartheads.com/hondah.aspx
