D16A1 Turbo question
I'm getting a price list together for my 87 Integra LS. I already got the suspension, brakes, engine mounts, cat back, and ZC internals priced out. But I'm having a hard time finding turbo kits, or pieces to make my own kit. This could be a stupid question, but can i use any D16 based kit, or does it have to be for an 87 integra.

The turbo kits for other d series wil work but you might have to port match the turbo manifold. I also think if you want to run chipped ecu's you have to upgrade to the 88-89 ecu and wiring. Check out www.d-series.org or www.turbod16.com for some more help.
87-89 ECMs are basically the same ol thing. you can put a t3 kit on it and should have no problemmos. the pistons are a low enough ratio to pow a turbo , just go with new rings unless the pistons are burnt out.

invest in your tuning (no cheaping out here with a fmu), keep the hp to a reasonable amount (200-220whp) on stock internals, forged you can run a lot more. I've run as high as 10.2:1 compression and boost just fine, i've seen people run upwards of 11:1 compression (street cars) with boost. itr's love to make tons of power with a mild turbo set-up and their compression is on the high side.
IMO for a street car 9.5:1 up to about 10.6:1 compression is perfect, run lower then that if you plan to run lots of boost and make lots of power.
