where did you guys learn to build a motor?
I would like to rebuild a b16 this summer ( for use and experience) I was just wondering where you guys learned to do your rebuilds? Any websites, books, etc you can reccommend? I'm new to engine rebuilding, but not to hondas or car mechanics by any means. Thanks for any info.
Edit: This should probably be in the DIY section- I'm sorry

I'm not sure there's a single place that where you learn everything. I picked stuff up here and there from lots of different places, peoples, things, books, etc. The rest I kinda learn on my own by working the math, doing it on my own, and trial & error. It's probably better that way so that you don't get overwhelmed with information all at once and you can put the pieces together on your own.
I'd say start with the terminology and basic principles. For example, piston-to-deck height clearance, compression height, deck height, rod-stroke ratio, lift & duration, dwell, dial bore gauge, micrometer, ABDC closing, static & dynamic compression ratio, surface finish (Ra, Rz, Rk, etc.), dgree wheel, cam spec sheet, rocker arm ratio, spring install height....man I could go on forever. That's not even touching materials, material properties, and material procesing. You damn near have to be an engineer to know much of anything useful.

1) get a factory helms manual. www.helminc.com
2) read this article over and over again until you understand it all

i learned everything from my dad and learned more when i put the ls in my hatch. My first motor that i took apart was a junk chevy small block. I didnt care so i jus takin everything apart and put it back together. its not that hard to take apart or rebuild a motor. u jus need all the specs for that motor like measurments and torque specs....etc, and know what goes where, but after takin apart that motor u should know where everything goes.
Just doing it...
Be meticulous and catalog everything. Take a lot of pics too so that you can see how things go back together. I did my first build with just a Chilton's manual. If you don't know much about cars then read up about the basics. I recommend getting a good torque wrench and some assembly lube as well.
