Honing with a power drill?
My Machinist was SUPPOSED to hone my cylinders out... Instead he used a power drill and some brush-like thing with like 100 little stones in it... So there's no crosshatch pattern on it... just looks like I strapped a piece of sandpaper to a drill and went to town... is this bad? I think so. lol
Also, which is better... Aftermarket Rod/Main bearings or Honda ones?
Thanks.
Harry

well..thats one way to hone a cylinder...you can do it that way..IF YOU KNOW WHAT YOUR DOING...i have seen it done to a go kart engine several times and work just fine...and depending on what aftermarket company you are getting your bearings from..depends on which one is better..ask around..and see which are the best for the price your willing to pay
You mean a flex-hone? If the cylinder was straight to begin with, a flex hone wouldn't be all bad, but if the cylinders aren't straight, that's another story. As far as the cross-hatch goes, that's all a matter of ring-seating, as long as you don't have a mirror-smooth finish on the cylinder walls, you should be able to get the rings to seat fine, although the cross-hatch is obviously preferred since it doesn't promote ring spinning or anything like that.

Aight thanx a ton everyone... I'm going to assume the cylinders were straight to begin with... The block was in good shape in every other way when we took it apart, u know... bearings looked great, it mic's just fine... all within specs... U know.
I GUESS that's what it is... a flex hone... but who knows... The cylinders look rough, but feel pretty smooth.
We might see her put together in the next few days, too!
Thanks again,
Harry

No, you can get a cross-hatch pattern with a flex hone as long as the material is uniform diameter and free of major irregularities. Basically, you can get it if you're overboring, or you can if your honing a glazed, but otherwise good, bore.
