Default check engine light

My wifes 2002 honda accord auto has 40k miles. Today i was going about 35 mph, accelerated to switch lanes, and it hesitated as it downshifted. At first i thought it was tranny, until i played w. throttle. The engine was losing power, not the tranny slipping. I made it happen a few times to figure out what was going on. Cruising at low rpms and accelerating seemed to do it as it downshifted. As long as i kept my foot on the gas it would keep fluctuating. I accelerated from a stand still and the car did not hesitate.

when i got home, i pushed the throttle in park and at 5200 rpms, the engine would drop down to around 45-4700 rpms. I do not think that was the rev limiter kicking in.

It seems like it is not getting oxygen or fuel.

I don't know what it is. the 02 sensor.

My wife's car just did something similar. It turned out to be the EGR valve. You need to have the code read so you know what it is the root cause.
