Default Odd Crackling sound at engine shutoff

hey guys

i have a 01 GSR, 67K miles and it runs great when i drive. however, when i turn it off, i hear a crackling noise coming from underneath the IM that make me think i have a hose leaking pressure. now, i never remember hearing this, and when i did hear it, i thought it was b./c i installed a bypass vavle on my CAI, so i thought nothing of it untill my friend said it wasnt the intake. u guys have any ideas what hose this could be? i roughly too a gander under the car but i cant trace the sound to anything. maybe one of you guys have ran into this problem also. if i get a sound recorder, ill try to make a sound clip of the sound so maybe it could be better diagnosed.

TIA
Rob

So it hisses or cracks?

Hissing would be the release of manifold vacuum (or entrance of atmospheric pressure) after the car is turned off and vacuum is no longer created.

Cracking would be metal expansion and contraction after the engine is shut off.

I have had the same circumstance i believe, sometimes it occurs as i start the car rarely and as i turn it off. it makes a sound as if it's coming from the pulley area, it makes a sound like a metal fan being hit with a small piece of metal huh? I was thinking it could be the water pump or something, i'm not really sure.

i got it. it was my PCV valve. my idle now sits at 1,000RPMS and does not fluctuate at all. it also is not making that noise. it was hard to change it cause on the damn GSR IM its hidden under all taht stuff. i guess it would be loads easier had i done it after the engine cooled down lol.

thanks for the help though guy, i really appreciate it.
