Default TPS Sensor, need help

Hey Fella's, I have a 92 accord EX-Automatic, and my car was acting weird after a while check engine light comes on, and I take it to mechanic to get the code and they said it's my TPS sensor. So I've done some research and found out that you can't but just the TPS sensor and have to get whole throtle body. But i've also read that some people go to junk yard and were able to get it. Now my question is removing the TPS sensor screws, will I have to like cut them off? After I replace the sensor, do I plug the 3 wires into it and then ADJUST the TPS or do you adjust it before the 3 wires are plugged into it. And final question how do I conect the TPS sensor back to Throttle body since the 2 screws i had to cut? Do i just get some 2 new screws and hook it up? Let me know thanks guys.....

The best way to get them off in my opinion is to use a air cutting wheel to cut a line in the top of each screw. You can use that slach cut like the head of a flathead screw.

You must put the TPS back on the throttle body before you adjust it. The way you adjust it is by checking the voltage from the sensor, and you rotate the sensor in the throttle body until you've got it reading the right voltage, and finally you tighten the TPS.

I would replace the 2 screws you cut with new ones of the same threads with an actual head on them. It makes for easier future adjustments.

If you are crafty you might be able to go to a honda motorcycle dealer and just buy one from there. Keep in mind because they are mounted in reverse, you need to reverse some pins on your car's TPS plug.

That is all I am going to say.

Hey i'm having a similar problem. I would check out getting it serviced at a dealership i have a 91 crx and they want $150 to put in a new sensor. A bit pricey, but at least there's warranty on the work and it's a new part.

In the US, the TPS sensors are riveted on. A file and a good amount of elbow grease will get it off as well, although a dremel is a less labor intensive tool. Yes, you can re-install it with screws. You will need to adjust the TPS after you plug it into the harness. Grab a DVOM and a Helms manual and you'll be good to go.

And you're not being cheap by sourcing the TPS from the junkyard. not everyone has $500 to spend on a complete throttle body!
