Hello,

I know there has been alot of guys already asking about this but mine is slightly different. My B16A starts tapping after 3000rpm till 4000rpm, before that it taps but you can hardly hear it, after 3000 it sounds like marbles were dropped in there. I have changed the lifters, adjusted the valve lashings, used thicker oil, adjusted timing, but nothing works. Does anyone know what else I can do.

is it at WOT or closed loop? what mods do you have? what octane gas?

marbles in the engine sound is usually detonation

 

nah, its stock.

 

are you sure your timing is correct and are you sure youre valve lash it at proper settings ?

 

Mine,also make a tapping noise from 3500rpm all the way to red line. But for sure is not a detonation noise,cause I tried to advance the timing and it make a knocking noise (different than tapping noise).And I set the valve clearance correctly. any suggestion what the problem is? Thanks.

 

i am sure everything is set fine, been to the mechanics and everything, cant find it, definately tapping noise and not knocking..

 

valves..you'll know when its knocking.. .. valves need adjusting.

 

maybe might be a rod bearing.

Where is the tapping sound coming from, towards top of engine or towards bottom? When you used the thicker oil, did it slow it down at all? If it did, possible rod bearing knocking. If it didn't slow it down at all, means it is coming from the bottom/middle of the engine and is more than likely a main bearing. Better hope for rod bearing, main bearings a bitch to replace. Hope this helps. Just a suggestion, lol.
