Default 98 Acura SLX Fault

I have a 98 Acura SLX with the V-6 and over 100,000 miles on it. The Check Engine light came on and the truck was really hesitant so my husband put a tester on it and found that it was running lean on Bank One. (He's the mechanic, I'm the computer junkie) He went through and checked the spark plugs and the Oxygen Sensors. :upset: Nothing has helped. The truck only runs sluggish when at operating temperature. It runs good when it's cold. Any ideas on what the heck Bank One is??

Here's another question for you...how in the hell do you change the transmission fluid??

If anyone can volunteer some info I would be very appreciative!! I have searched for info on the net but with this not being a very popular vehicle I have had no luck. It's an automatic transmission too so it's not like I can even search for the Isuzu Trooper to get answers.

What is an SLX? Never heard of it...

Anyways, have you tried resetting the ECU by disconnecting the negative terminal of the battery for 10 seconds? The engine runs in limp mode whenever there is a CEL, so that might be the problem. It sounds to me like the CEL was tripped by a random misfire in cylinder 1 and the new spark plugs will probably remedy that.

As for the tranny fluid, there has got to be a drain bolt underneath the transmission that allows you to empty it and then there should be a way on top of the tranny to fill it. Sorry I can't be more descriptive but I have never changed automatic tranny fluid before.

Good luck and if all else fails, see a mechanic since there is a general lack of information about the model you are describing.

The Acura SLX is basically the Isuzu Trooper with an Automatic Transmission.

Spark plugs have been replaced with similar, and we didn't get the high tech ones because I read that they could be a problem in the future with this vehicle. The battery was unplugged as well. If there was a problem with Cylinder 1, it would have shown up on the tester and it didn't.

The tranny does have a plug at the bottom to drain but no apparent way to refill it. We tried to call an Acura shop but we heard the typical, "You'll have to bring it in" and you know what that leads to! $$$$$$$$$

First the disclaimer... I don't really know Isuzus.

Bank 1 & 2 refers to V engines where each side has it's own primary O2 sensor. 'Primary' & 'secondary' refers to before vs. after the catalytic converter. If the SLX has only one primary O2 sensor after the exhaust connects together into 1 pipe, then the OBD-2 error codes still(!) call it bank 1. If each side has it's own O2 sensor, then I don't know which side is which. There's different codes for misfires on any particular cylinder, that's different than 'lean on bank 1'.

Typically automatic trannys drain from a drain bolt on the bottom & fill thru the dipstick tube. Is the automatic tranny behaving bad, or are you just changing fluid by the maintenance schedule? 'Real' Honda automatic trannys don't have a normal replacable filter/screen like most other. But Isuzu??? If it has a pan on the bottom of the tranny then maybe it has a filter?

There are four O2 sensors, two on each side. There is one before and one after the catalytic converter however NO sensors after the two pipes come together into one.

As for the dipstick for the Transmission fluid, there is not one to be found. We bought this SUV used about a year ago and we have no reason to believe that the transmission fluid has ever been changed, so we are wanting to do that now.
