Default Gsr Block question..(smoking alittle)

Some dude has a Gsr block with about 130,000 miles on it for sale..(500.00)
he said the motor smoked alittle and could be a piston ring. I just wanted to know if there could be any other problems that could cause the block to smoke alittle..or is it only the piston rings. I just wanted to make sure because I don't want to run into other problem while thinking its only the piston ring.
Any help would be great.

Thanks alot.

It is most likely a piston ring. It could also be valve seals but that would have to do with the head, not the block. If you are getting the block, I recommend rehoning it and putting new rings in at the least. If I had a block to work with, I would rebuild the sucker before ever putting it on my car especially if it had that many miles on it.
