Default b16 ring markings

I just got some new piston rings for my b16a motor from JE Pistons. The top combustion ring and the second combustion ring have a little "N" etched in them. Does this designate a "this side up" marking or is that just a manufacturer's tool mark? what exactly is that "n" for?
thanks

I know that the manufacturing marking has to do with the orientation but I am unsure as to which side it faces. I will check my service manual when I get home because I think that there is also a notching that designates which side faces up.

OK. Just checked it. Manufacturing marks face upwards. There is also a chamfer on both the top and second ring. The top ring chamfer faces toward the piston and the second ring chamfer faces toward the cylinder walls. Hope this helps.
