LOL, thanks folks for da love! Turns out this car suffered from a leaky head gasket. We discovered a TSB and ordered/installed the newer Honda Head Gasket that was first available in 1997.
We had the head rebuilt, milled, etc using Honda's head rebuild kit. We also cleaned up the pistons, manifold, and replaced a crapload of parts. Total investment was about $1200 including the tools, manuals, parts, etc.
Now we have a perfectly healthy Honda 100hp engine with stock specs/compression... power delivery is back to what it should be, no more smoking, no more fuss.
Next step is to patch up the exhaust system, and replace the throttle link cable (or whatever it's called) cause the throttle's sticky...
... my brother and I had big dreams with this car, but with this being his only vehicle for school and work, I didn't think it would be wise to take the time to do the research and have the car sitting in the garage for too long.
Now, I've learned a hellalot in the process... next step: 1995 Mitsubishi Galant ES with fuel delivery problems at part throttle
I'm a shadetree mechanic folks and it's all thanks to Honda-Acura.net!!!
