Default B20B vs. B20Z

What are the mechanical differences in the engine block besides the pistons?
I want to build a B20Z for a CRVTEC, what should I do to get it to run 8000 rpm reliably, I'm not talking all the time, just for the occasional 1/4 mile pull. Heard a lot about vtec oil squirters, is that all you need? And is there anything more that needs to be done to the B20B than the B20Z? ... I've heard that the Z is better for a frankenstein engine than the B, not sure why tho.

And valve clearances, read a thread somewhere on here about a guy mangling his pistons hitting with valves. Would this be a problem with a B16A1 head, and stock cams? Would bigger cams like JunIII cause the valves to start hitting the pistons? Last question, how much head milling is allowed on a B16A1 to keep safe valve clearance?

If you got a golden budget setup, please share, I'm planning a budget build on the bottom end, stock rods and pistons, but I do plan on adding vtec oil squirters.

The only major difference in the block is the pistons, that's it. A JDM B20B is the same as a US B20Z, only the US B20B is lacking in compression.

The block needs to be built just like an LS/VTEC. Crank girdle and rods, at least shot peened stock rods with good rod bolts. Oil squirters are not nessicary.

The valve clearance problem comes into play when you try to use Type-R or higher lift (Like the JUN III) cams. Have the valve pockets in the pistons machined out for extra clearance, or buy aftermarket pistons. You might as well do it now to save time and effort redoing it when you want a higher lift cam.

Don't mill a B16A head unless you absolutely have to, use higher compression pistons instead.
