More B18b Questions....
I Have A B18 Setup But I Am Afraid Of The Conseqeunces For Using The Head....i Want To Know If Any1 Has Info On How The Rockers Hold At High Rpm Say 9k...also How Does The Stock Port On The Head Flow .is It Good Enuff To Use Force Induction With Small Mods To Gain High Horse Power.
Rockers are not an item you need to worry about. Valvesprings are.
Stock port is fine. For forced induction I wouldn't worry about porting until you're putting down a large amount of horsepower.
You'll get a lot more responses to your thread if you stop using caps all over the place and break up your sentences a little more. Kinda hard to read.

well sorry to kill ur brain but i didnt know u can have a hard time raeding just because of a few caps...sory to make u work so hard.....and my rockers are free floating so i had to pop that question thanks for the info...
not so much springs as retainers...because that is what will actaully pop off. and yes i would be willing to put money on the fact your head cant handle 9k rpms without Ti retainers and race springs.

There is a reason DOHC VTEC heads use a radically different valvetrain design that the LS heads. LS rockers are reportedly stable to about 8500-ish even on a beefed up valve train(springs/retainers) anything above that and you're prolly playing with fire. The valvetrain just wasn't designed to rev that high. The mechnical leverage of the LS rocker arms is higher than the VTEC rocker design as well, that just places more stress in general on arm itself. Which may or may not be an issue depending on your intentions...but but its just info thats handy to know.
And unless you've got a ungodly N/A cam, you'll not need to rev to 9k anyways on an LS engine. If you're worried about revving the piss out of something and having it hold together then go get a torqueless wonder.....er I mean B16. Since you've mentioned F/I as a power adder, using a cam with enough lift and overlap to make power @ 9k would be very counter productive to a street driven LS anyways. I'd like to state that the LS head isn't not so much limited by it's port design, albeit a lower flow than it's VTEC bothers. LS cams are more the downfall than anything. I'd recommend a set of mild/moderate Crower N/A cams with beefy springs and retainers. With just a touch of port work if you feel the need, a simple gasket match port job works wonders.
i have the whole valve train thing done and my car is a daily driver....block is built and what not....Everyone talks about the VTEC motor and not enuff bout the non-VTEC's....I've been working on my motor for like 2 years and its wonderful...make mad torque and enuff high end to spank stock VTEC's like they sittin still....i would like to go force induction thats basically why i asked bout the rockers reliability.I know the VTEC heads are way better just want to see wut the non-VTEC can do.THANKS FOR THE INFO.

Ummm don't see what you're really gettin at here bro. My LS has been around and in one of my cars for about 4 years and Forced Induction has nothing to do with the reliability of your valve train.

wow
that says alot
btw what are you runnin at the track and how much WHP are you puttin down with your built b18b1
gtiger brought up the valve train thing...i just wanted to know if the rockers would hold at high rpm so i know the limits of taking the LS motor without harming the engine too much.
Someone from skunk told me that they took their LS to 9400 rpm, that just sounded crazy to me.
I kno mine only makes power to about 8k but with force induction i kno i can get more power up in the high rpm range....just want to play safe b4 i blow another wad out of my pocket to get it rite.
I have an 80 shot NOS system in it rite now and i want more power at high rpm.
The more you speak the more i learn ..THANX

You can TRY to take an LS valvetrain that high but unless you've got a cam to support it you're going nothing but pissing the life of your engine away. Running an LS that high isn't gonna let it last very long. You know what RPM stands for right? Ruins People's Motors
