not much of a b guy but here goes.

b16a - 1st gen VTEC - obd1
b16a2 - 2nd gen VTEC, higher CR?, obd2
b16a4.5.6 - no idea
b16b - CTR cams and pistons

pretty sure its all same block except for 1st gen b16a which may be closed deck.

B16A came with cable tranny, while the A2 and B came with a hydro tranny.

Haven't heard of B16A4,5 and 6 though. Euro motors maybe?

The 150, 160 and 170 hp versions (all B16Ax) are essentially identical. The 170 hp version has a slightly higher compression ratio due to different pistons. The 160 hp version is identical to what was sold here in the del Sol VTEC and the '99-'00 Civic Si. The 150 hp version is identical mechanically but has a lower-powered ECU tune for use with an automatic transmission.

The B16B is vastly different. The block is from a B18C but with a shortened stroke, and the pistons produce a very high compression ratio. The head is the same as a B18C5 in that it's a PR3 (B16A, B17A) casting with a port/polish job, more aggressive cams and stiffer valve springs. Early B18C5 heads have a slightly different intake cam. It shares its intake manifold and throttle with the B18C5 as well. Essentially it's a later B18C5 with different crank, rods and pistons.
